SERVICES & FEES

Horse sense, n.:  Stable thinking.  ~Author Unknown

Below you will see a selection of the services I offer.  All the nutritional formulations I create are based on the National Research Council (NRC) 2007 Nutrient Requirements of Horses guidelines.  The NRC are a part of the National Academies which are private, nonprofit institutions that provide science, technology and health policy advice under a congressional charter.

To make an appointment or schedule a service, please email or call.  I will then send you an in-depth questionnaire for you to fill out and send back to me.  This will take you some time to complete but the more in depth answers you provide; the better I will be able to help you.  Not all the things I offer can easily be put into packages.  In addition everyones needs are slightly different, and sometimes it may not be clear which services would be right for your situation.  To make sure the service you receive will be exactly what you need; I encourage potential new clients to make use of the new client consultation.  If, after this consultation, you decide to utilize my services, the cost of this initial consultation will be deducted from the cost of the service you choose.

New Client 30 Minute Consultation Fee - $40

Not sure exactly what services you need, do a 30 minute consult to see what if anything you should do.  Should you decide to utilize my services further, the cost of this initial consult will be deducted from the cost of the service you choose.

Consultation Fee - $80 per hour (billed in 15 minute increments)

Consultations can take place over the phone, or at your farm if you are within a 100 mile radius of  Sacramento.  Consultations can cover any area of horse management and nutrition.  In order to utilize time efficiently I ask that you thoroughly complete the questionnaire, and email me your questions ahead of time.  This will ensure you get the most out of your appointment.  For travel to your farm a trip fee of $25/hour of travel time is charged plus mileage of $0.48/mile.

Diet Formulation – starting at $80*

The horse’s dietary requirements will be calculated based on the responses provided by you in the client questionnaire, hay analysis results if available and 2007 NRC guidelines.  A diet will be created that meets the horses identified needs that is based on the hay of choice with added concentrates and supplements where necessary.

Custom Formulated Vitamin and Mineral Mixes – starting at $40* does not include manufacturing cost.

Based on hay analysis results and your horses dietary requirements a custom mineral and vitamin formulation will be created.  This supplement will be manufactured by either Uckele or HorseTech.  This service requires a hay analysis and diet formulation.

 * Next to any service denotes a discount available to repeat customers who re-order the same service within a 6 month window.  Great for owners whose horses exercise regime changes or for adapting to seasonal changes in dietary need.

Hay/Pasture Analysis – Starting at $70* with interpretation and $40 without

As forage should be the major component of your horse’s diet it is wise to know the nutrient content of the hay or pasture you are feeding.  I will provide you with instructions on how to sample your hay or pasture and the samples will be sent away for lab analysis at a nationally accredited lab.  Basic analysis results will tell you the energy, crude protein, fat and ash content of the forage along with the calcium to phosphorous ratios.  More in depth analysis are available on request.  I will provide you with a written explanation of what the results mean along with any suggestions of measures you should take to rectify any potential deficiencies.

Equilibrium Constant Care Package

This is a flexible package for the horse owners who wish to insure that their situation never gets too far out of balance by receiving ongoing consulting capability.  The first month of the Equilibrium Constant Care Package includes the formulation of a balanced diet for your horse (based on your questionnaire responses, 2007 NRC guidelines and hay analysis tests), one on-site visit (within a 100 miles radius of Sacramento, if outside radius an additional 1hr phone consultation can be substituted) and one 1hour phone consultation.  After the initial month a quarterly subscription buys you one on-farm visit per quarter and at least one phone consultation hour each month.  Package prices vary depending on the number of hours consulting you subscribe for each month and whether the initial diet formulation requires hay analysis.  Email me to discuss how this package can be tailored to your needs.

As a graduate of Pony Club, past DC, RIC and HMO, I will offer a 10% discount to current members of Pony Club or the Pony Club Horse Masters program.
